Ultra Ball

The Ultra Ball is the best ball money can buy. With double the catch rate it is the workhorse for legendaries and stubborn catches once shops start stocking it.
What does the item do?
Tries to catch a wild Pokémon with a 2× catch rate. An ultra-high-performance Poké Ball that provides a higher success rate for catching Pokémon than a Great Ball.

Catch rate ×2 compared to a standard Poké Ball. For comparison: the Great Ball sits at ×1.5, the Ultra Ball at ×2. That sounds like a small gap, but against the standard ball it doubles your real success chance per throw. Against legendaries with a catch rate of 3, every throw stays a gamble, so sleep or freeze helps on top and doubles the odds again. No ball replaces status support.
In FireRed/LeafGreen you can find Ultra Ball here: Cerulean Cave and Seafoam Islands and Route 23 and Victory Road and Saffron City. The five field locations all sit in endgame territory, from Cerulean Cave to Victory Road. Hidden balls show up with the Itemfinder. In FireRed/LeafGreen you can also buy Ultra Balls in most shops once you are far enough into the story.
The standard for every serious catch. Only when the Ultra Ball hits its limits do specialty balls start to pay off: Dusk Ball in caves at night, Timer Ball after ten turns, Net Ball against Water and Bug Pokémon. For everything else, the Ultra Ball is the right call.
