EVOLUTION

Which Pokémon does Moon Stone evolve?

Use the stone and the evolution starts immediately — careful: some Pokémon stop learning new level-up moves after a stone evolution.

Q&A

Instant evolution, and it arrives early in the game. Nidorina and Nidorino become Nidoqueen and Nidoking, both with a huge TM movepool. Clefairy and Jigglypuff also evolve, and later games add Skitty and Munna. Mt. Moon delivers the stones before the second gym, which makes Nidoking and Nidoqueen some of the strongest early investments in any run. As usual, stone evolutions learn few level-up moves afterwards.

In FireRed/LeafGreen you can find Moon Stone here: Mt. Moon and Celadon City and Cinnabar Island. Mt. Moon holds two stones in the crater room, with more in the Rocket Hideout under the Game Corner and hidden in the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island. The hidden one needs the Itemfinder. The stone is not sold in FireRed/LeafGreen.

The earliest big power boost in a run. Nidoking and Nidoqueen carry half a team through the game with their movepool, and you reach the stones before gym two. Clefairy and Jigglypuff are more of a collector's project. Anyone starting with a Nidoran should not skip Mt. Moon.
