Fire Stone evolves some of the most popular Fire Pokémon on the spot. In FireRed/LeafGreen you simply buy it in the Celadon City department store.
What does the item do?
Evolves certain species of Pokémon. A peculiar stone that can make certain species of Pokémon evolve. The stone has a fiery orange heart.
Which Pokémon does Fire Stone evolve?
Use it, the evolution starts immediately, no level requirement. In Kanto the stone affects Vulpix, Growlithe, and Eevee, which become Ninetales, Arcanine, and Flareon. All three learn almost no level-up moves afterwards. The standard advice: exhaust the pre-evolution's level-up moveset first, then use the stone. Arcanine, for example, learns nothing at all by level after evolving.
Our Kanto dataset (FireRed/LeafGreen) has no recorded location for Fire Stone. The Celadon City department store sells the Fire Stone on the fourth floor for 2100 Pokédollars. The purchase is repeatable, so you never have to wait for a field find.
A strong lineup, but timing is everything. Ninetales, Arcanine, and Flareon are legitimate run carriers. The mistake happens at the timing: evolve too early and the level-up moveset is gone, recoverable only through TMs. Patience until the desired move pays off.
